The Easter Egg Hunt on Palm Sunday was very successful. Approximately 25 kids gathered in Brashaber Hall to get the rainy day hunt instructions from their leaders. Grades K-5 had to find golden eggs hidden in their assigned rooms. Inside those eggs were letters that had to be unscrambled so that they spelled the name of another room in the church where a big box of eggs awaited them. The 5yr olds-1st graders found their eggs by unscrambling the word “office” and finding their box under Ms. Rita’s desk! The 2-3 graders had to uncover “kitchen” and find their box under the tables and the 4-5 graders looked high and low in the narthex for their golden eggs spelling “sanctuary.” Each group had fun with this little twist on the traditional hunt and even though we had rain we also had a lot of fun! Thank you to Judy Headley, Nancy Van Allen, Jeff Baumgardner, Martha Danielson, Liz Van Allen, Angie Harlan, and Ryan and Jen Gallagher for their help setting up and leading the hunt.

With the passing of Easter the Children’s Worship hour has also finished up our Journey with Jesus. We walked in Jesus’ footsteps as he walked here on Earth and last week we experienced his final ascension and discussed what we thought it would have been like to watch him go and what it might be like when he comes again. Much thoughtful discussion was had.

We now move on to a new 13-week curriculum where we get to be Agents in Action living courageously as God’s Special Agents. This promises to be another fun-filled and informative few months.

This new curriculum will lead us into the summer, the end of school, and VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2012! If you have not already marked your calendars do so right now for June 25-29. We will be visiting Promise Island and learning about God’s promises to us. I will have volunteer sign-up sheets in the narthex in the next few weeks so you can grab your spot on our adventure and craft/snack material donation tags out at the end of May. Please watch for more information and registration forms as we prepare St. Paul for an island vacation!

We are several volunteers short for our 8:45 hour and 1 short for 11:00. Please consider helping us out and giving back to St. Paul by helping to guide and nurture our children. Once a month, once every few months, I’ll take it! If you just want to watch one day or give it a trial run no problem, we’d love to have you! Thank you to those volunteers who have been helping out each month year after year-we all appreciate you!

The St. Paul Youth will be headed to this event Friday at 4:30PM. All youth need to bring $10 to cover the cost of their ticket. Some spending money might not be a bad idea either for food and souvenirs. If you are planning on attending this event you MUST let Ian and Laura know by Sunday night, March 25th, at youth group so that we can arrange the appropriate amount of transportation. We are unsure of what time we will get back from this event but will call parents on the way home to arrange for pick-up at church (after midnight).

So far we have been told by our toucan friend to Believe in Jesus, Shine Your Light, Obey the Word, Grow in God’s Ways, Depend on God’s Love, and Show Mercy. 7 more valuable lessons remain on our quest.

October 30 delivered another fantastic Family Fun Hour. Several families participated in fun fall activities. The Heltons won the bobbing for apples contest (see the picture of the Helton men in action on the bulletin board outside the Children’s Ministry office). Andrew Helton won our “Put on a Happy Snood” card game beating out 17 others! The Randalls, Pottorffs, Scroggins, Kates, Van Allens, and Heltons put forth a valiant effort and our third game, Wall Football, ended in a 6-way tie! See pictures of all the fun outside the Children’s Ministry office. Our next Family Fun Hour will be in January-don’t miss this one!

As we look forward to our Christmas celebrations, I want to wish all of our St. Paul families a warm, cozy, and joyful holiday. We can’t wait to share it with you each Sunday morning, at our St. Paul Christmas Party, and our Christmas Eve services.

It’s exciting to start a new season! We in the children’s department are excited to be starting a new curriculum soon too! We will be finishing up our study of the Fruits of the Spirit and on October 23 will be starting a new curriculum! We are looking forward to seeing what God has to teach us this year.

We have another reason to be excited; Family Fun Hour on October 30. The 10:00 hour of the last Sunday in October promises to deliver another great family fun opportunity. We will be having a Fall Family Fun Party. There will be lots of autumn games and activities. Watch for details and sign-up sheets so you don’t miss out! Remember families of all ages and sizes are welcome to party with us!

Don’t forget we have our Bible Studies meeting at 10:00 each Sunday. Trudy McConnell and her fisher-boys and girls have a great time getting to know the Bible a little better each week. Any child ages 5-2nd grade is welcome to join them in Room F. For the older children, Nancy Van Allen and Jennifer and Ryan Gallagher meet with the 3rd-5th graders in Room L. This year the 3rd graders get to join the 4th and 5th grade kids and get a sneak peek at the SWAT group’s fun.

As we look forward to a fresh start with our curriculum, reorganization of our Children’s Worship room, and new children being promoted into our groups, I invite all in our church family to stop by or join us any Sunday in rooms F, K and L at 8:45, 10:00, and 11:00. We are always looking for loving, dedicated people to help guide the young people of St. Paul; if you are interested in joining the children’s ministry more permanently and having a hand in shaping St. Paul’s future leaders, please speak with me or any of our wonderful volunteers!

If you are a youth or parent please check out the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside the sanctuary. We need everyone to participate in these games so please find a couple that work for you and sign up! Workers must be at the game two hours prior to kick-off wearing closed toed shoes. You will be given a hat and T-shirt to wear while at the game. If you have any further questions please let Laura or Ian know.

SPY Kick-Off!

On Sunday, September 18 from 6-8PM we would like to invite all youth in 6-12 grades and their parents to join us as we celebrate another year of SPY. We will be going over this year’s activities and policies while sharing a meal together. We hope to see you there!

Girl’s Night Sleepover

Girls, on Friday, September 16 at 7PM bring your sleeping bags and favorite snack for a sleepover at Laura’s house. We’ll stay up late chatting and watching chick flicks. Then, in the morning we’ll have some pancakes before the IU concession stand! What more could you ask for? Don’t worry boys, Ian says he’s taking you camping later in the fall…

We will be finishing up our study of the Fruits of the Spirit in the next few weeks and mid-October will be starting a new curriculum! We have learned so much about living a fruitful life this past year and are looking forward to seeing what God has to teach us this year.

Promotion Sunday gave us another new start; Logan Knight and Layton Scroggins were promoted to third graders and given a Bible with which to really start their own Bible studies. We welcome them to this new chapter of their spiritual lives. To the new 6th graders moving up we send a fond farewell and best wishes as they join “the big kids.”

We have another Family Fun Hour coming up in October. The 10:00 hour of the last Sunday in October promises to deliver another great family fun opportunity. Watch for details and sign-up sheets so you don’t miss out!

As always our church family is welcome to peek in or join us any Sunday in rooms F, K and L at 8:45, 10:00, and 11:00…hopefully some of you will consider joining us more permanently, we really need more help!

We are definitely in the heat of the summer both outside and here at St. Paul.

Our St. Paul children as well as our neighborhood friends have just gotten back from an African safari! We learned through the Lord’s Prayer that God Listens, God Provides, God Forgives, God Protects, and God Rules. We also learned some great songs, ate some really amazing food and made keepsakes that will help remind us of our adventure. We as a church family touched about 70 kids throughout our safari week. It is impossible to know the impact our time together had in those young people’s lives. Thank you to all those who donated supplies, helped prepare craft materials, set-up/decorated the church, and especially those who showed up each night giving every last bit of energy to our kids. I appreciate you all very much!

As summer vacation comes to a close and the school year looms we look forward to starting a new curriculum series in September and having another great year in children’s ministry. We are still in need of many people to keep this ministry thriving…please consider helping us out. This summer is going to be super exciting because we get to embark on a safari right here at St. Paul. Visit the African plains and learn about the Lord’s Prayer at Vacation Bible School 2011. Volunteer sign-up sheets are in the narthex now…don’t be shy, sign-up today! Snag your spot on the trip! If you would rather help out by donating items, donation tags will be posted later in June. And kids make sure your parents pickup and return a registration form to sign you up, these will be available mid-June. Remember; our Prayer Safari is July 11-15 and Sunday, July 17.

I am still in need of a few more volunteers for our Sunday morning program! If you are not able to commit indefinitely consider just taking one Sunday a month for the summer-another teacher or two at both the 8:45 and 11:00 hours would be great-especially with summer conflicts about to start. Luckily we were spared from the rain on Palm Sunday and were able to enjoy an outdoor (slightly chilly) Easter egg hunt. We had about 35 children participate. Each went home with a basket full of eggs and an Easter story booklet which helped remind us that Easter is not just about the eggs! Thank you to Jen and Ryan, Judy, Amy and Eli, Jackie and Jesse, and Nancy and Jessica for helping to hide eggs and supervise the hunt.

I’m sure all of you are looking forward to summer and the end of all this rain! Conveniently, we all have the opportunity to escape for a week and visit the African plains. That’s right; St. Paul is embarking on a Prayer Safari July 11-15 and Sunday, July 17. I’m talking about this year’s Vacation Bible School adventure of course! Don’t let summer activities and vacations cause you to miss this exciting week. Watch for more information in the coming weeks; including volunteer sign-ups, donation lists, and pre-registration forms.

The Lenten season is upon us leading us into Easter!! Our celebration will be here soon. The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on April 17th at 10:00. Bring any children ages 2-5th grade for a fun-filled Easter hour. Hopefully we’ll be able to hunt outside! If not, we will be in and around Brashaber Hall. Watch for hunt locations to be posted the day of.

Don’t worry adults you can participate too! We are in need of Hunt volunteers. I need Easter egg hiders during the 8:45 service time and hunt leaders during the 10:00 hour (the hunt really only takes 15-20 min.) Please let me know if you are willing to serve in one or both of these roles. With spring come thoughts of summer.

Mark Vacation Bible School on your calendars right now! The date has been set for July 11-15 with our VBS program on Sunday, July 17 at 10:00. Don’t let summer activities and vacations cause you to miss this exciting week. This year we will be embarking on a prayer safari! You don’t want to be left out of this trip!

I am still in need for a few more volunteers for our Sunday morning program, especially the 8:45 hour. As you reflect on God’s purpose for you this Lenten season please prayerfully consider trying out this ministry and becoming one of us! The last Sunday in January, the Van Allen, Koi, Kates, and Randall Families competed in a spirited game of Charades. After a lot of laughs and a very close game, the Van Allen Family was the victor and was awarded the official Family Fun Game Hour Charades certificate. Congratulations! Check out the pictures of this special morning on the bulletin board outside the Children’s Ministry office. Your next opportunity for extra Family Fun will be the last Sunday of May.
